Too Late
A cool breeze from the lake chilled me to the bone. I hadn’t been down to the docks in ages.
“Creeps me out,” I murmured.
A low rumble began in Bear’s throat. He’d been trotting happily beside me but now stood stock still, legs braced, hackles up with hair standing on end. This wasn’t like him. As if I wasn’t scared enough. I hated the water, especially after what happened the last time I came down here.
The rumble grew louder, escalating into a growl. This isn’t like him.
“Bear!”I gasp with a short, quick breath, but it’s too late.

This is an excerpt of one of my many stories as I’m diligently working through my fear of dialogue 😉 However, I liked picking this portion because it’s like those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books from my childhood — you can really choose the way this story progresses: What would you write? 😉

I used to love Choose Your Own Adventure books.

Me too! My boys liked to use them to make up their own adventures — they find the books of my youth much too limiting — but used to love the idea of having the story starters as they began their own creative writing journeys. Thank you so much for stopping by 🙂

We were visited by a bear when camping, worse than that, we parked our trailer next to a beehive!! It was in a property we once owned in Washington Pemmisula.

Oh no!! Bear, in this story, is supposed to be a dog, but I totally understand it being in seen as an actual bear 🙂

Ha Ha! Indeed 😉 Probably would have cut out of there much sooner had the story not required the staying 😉 Thank you so much for stopping by!

Oh wow, I love the suspense in this! 😀
Haha, my aunt has a cat named Bear, so even though I understood that Bear is supposed to be a dog, I imagined a cat – who was possibly spooked by a dog. 😅

Nice! I’ve never heard of a cat named Bear, but our dog, Darkpaw, was nicknamed Bear by the Veterinary Hospital we take him to — which made it into the story 😉 Thanks so much for your kind words and stopping by 🙂
