I’ve been wanting to hug this tree for years - the beautiful Banyan tree in the Old Lahaina Courthouse square.
•
With 16 trunks, many man-made supports, and selective trimming, this gorgeous giver of life spans almost an acre.
•
1 tree over 1 acre
•
I hugged it, kissed it, thanked it, sang to it....took hundreds of images....
•
Though the touristy Maui may not be my favorite Island in Hawaii, this tree may be 🖤
•
What are your Hawaiian dreams?

A Valentines Day that is not just a wonderful day to focus on love, but a remembrance of our love together.
•
17 years ago he asked me to marry him, 6 months later, I said ‘I do’ 🖤
•
This man, my husband, so full of love for me, our family, through all the ups and downs; I could have never imagined we’d be here - physically, emotionally.
•
Love may be patient and kind, but doing the hard work...nobody tells you about that 🖤

As I complete my big home education paper purge, I ran across this math worksheet.
•
Wanting to please, wanting to learn, my oldest, my bibliophile, asked for math worksheets ad nauseam. It was the only subject he wasn’t several grade levels ahead of his peers. He was used to being the best, but he was “only” able to meet expectations for others in his grade range if he were in public school.
•
I loved that he drew on the worksheets, claiming himself often to ‘not be an artist’, but upon closer inspection, this one shows the cry for help - literally - he had during this period of his life.
•
I was having health issues. I wasn’t able to bring the joy, love, *enchantment* I’d worked so hard for so many years to bring into our home.
•
A year later, I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. I’ve been cancer-free for four years this month, but it’s something I still get treated for and live with the effects daily.
•
My cancer diagnosis and treatment, though not involving chemo and radiation, required several surgeries and resulted in a seismic shift in our home. In many ways, the changes in my health, energy, body, and mind persist to this day.
•
Finding my way back to my new normal was in large part due to the very sage advice of @juliebravewriter - focusing on relationships, not checkboxes, and permission to be the fatally flawed human I am, was what helped pull me out of my own cries for help and support on this home education journey.
•
Listening, again, to Julie’s book, The Brave Learner, I’m thankful to hear those kind words of compassion and support for us as home educators, parents, and our pursuit of positive relationships in my family.
•
I’ve not always gotten it right, but I always see the value of trying to improve over and over again.
•
What reflections do you want to see as you look back on your home education journey?
