Week 14

Thanks for stopping by for Week 14 of 100 Word Wednesdays!

So, I have a confession to make: I love the Anjo Beckers photography!

Whether it is the City of Lights or her mastery of capturing a story in an image, I find her images are prompts for my own writing. Imagine my surprise when she agreed to allow me to use this image for our weekly writing challenge!

There was a problem: I immediately starting writing and a whole story — a novelette – appeared from this one image, focused mainly on the couple, but weaving in the story of the man in the foreground. But how could I submit a piece to this challenge if I’d already written way more than 100 words?

Herein lies my reason for holding these challenges: brevity is a skill I desperately need to practice. I am much too verbose without always adding depth to my writing. Like any artist, I’m working to hone my skills: choose the right words, say it with style, and be succinct.

Is this how you use the prompts as well? I find without prompts, I may slide into my daily life and not get the writing accomplished I’d like to do. I do it for myself and choose to share some of my writing in my blog and on Instagram, occasionally on my Facebook page.

Finally, my husband has been out of town for the week – friend and family losses. Life is so short….gather ye rosebuds…..

How to participate? A few guidelines as we begin….

  1. Simply check my feed, or search the reader, for the 100WW or tag #100WW, post each Wednesday. I’ll also be posting on my Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook Feeds.
  2. Write your submission on your blog, Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook Feed and ping back to the weekly blog post. Feel free to use the image provided or your own. Please do credit the artist whose image we use – Links provided!
  3. I have not enabled automatic pingbacks due to a plethora of spam messages attempting to link up. Do feel free to also continue posting your links and I will enable your pingbacks as I check my blog. Thank you for understanding!!
  4. I’ll provide a Weekly Summary, or Windup, of posts on or by Tuesday; take the opportunity to read and comment on your fellow bloggers posts {keeping in mind to give each other grace and space}. I’ll try to read them all, but I can’t post your submission in the Weekly Wind-Up if you haven’t posted before the end of the weekend but I’ll do my best to catch ’em all!
  5. Have fun! I enjoy reading your challenge submissions 🙂
