Week 13
Thanks for stopping by for Week 13 of 100 Word Wednesdays!
We took our boys on a weekend getaway to Oregon via fishing ponds and lakes. This was our last stop on our way home and we were excited the fishing was only for ages 14 and under. While our boys patiently fished, they didn’t catch a thing. Families and children were seemingly catching with wild abandon, but not a bite. One of the children even offered bait, but it wasn’t in the cards.
As we discussed with our children, half the fun of fishing isn’t the catch, but the solitude. To be alone with your thoughts in the great outdoors, the goal for our trip wasn’t to catch and eat but to catch and release. Maybe we weren’t hungry enough, or maybe the others who were taking the fish home really needed the catches. In any case, our boys were able to practice patience and really have the opportunity to be encouraged, and encourage, the other fisherman without losing heart.
Second only to the scenery, it was a beautiful thing.
