Hi!
•
This hair is on its way to help others.
•
I met fellow home educator, @backyardowls , this summer at the Bravelearner Conference. •
We hit it off right away - like so many of the other mamas there - because we have shared values. When I saw her son cut his locks to donate to Children with Hair Loss, I knew that’s where my hair would go too.
•
I’ve been growing my hair out and chopping it for charity every 3-4 years, the last 20 years or so. My hair grows so fast, it’s a small thing I can do to bring comfort to a child experiencing hair loss.
•
I’d let my hair grow out longer than usual this time - this is my ‘cancer’ hair. Waist length, I had a hard time letting go of it this time. Survivors guilt, changes to my body, lack of control.... numerous emotional changes kept me clinging to it. But I’m stronger now, I’m finally feeling good and gaining clarity on myself, my health, and my future.
•
It was time to let the past go.
•
It’s not about the grand gestures, it’s about making intentional decisions - how will I choose to spend my time, my energy, my focus.
•
This is a very easy, small gesture I can make to put a little more light out there in the world.
•
Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” - this is how I choose to do it. I home educate.
I donate my hair
I read. A lot.
•
When life can be so unpredictable, overwhelming, or sad, when we focus on those small things we can do to advocate change - we make a difference. •
I may want to “...rage’ against the dying of the light, “ but choosing kindness, gratitude, and grace is always the way to change the world....
•
....one heart at a time.
•
Be the Change 🖤
