Word High July – Timpi

I never wanted to be controlled

I wanted to be myself, be free, ‘live out loud’

But as I age, as I gain perspective,

I see now the beauty can be in holding my tongue, being reserved, creating space.

For in these moments of quiet, my inner grace and space is revealed.

Rosema Writes:

“Much like the colors of the skies, every language is beautiful in its own wayโ€”the way they sound and how each word fits perfectly in a poem, a story, or a musical piece. And sometimes we find ourselves wishing how delightful it would be if we could learn those languages by heart and use them in our craft.

That is why Maria of Doodles and Scribbles and Rosema of A Reading Writer have invited you to join their July blog event, Word-High July. They have teamed up to give you a whole month worth of prompts and since we are both #ProudlyPinay, these 30 beautiful Filipino words below will serve as the prompt for each day of the month.

Disclaimer: These words and these photos are from a lovely article by BuzzFeed titled โ€œ36 Of The Most Beautiful Words In The Philippine Languageโ€. All credits goes to them.”

…and the rules…

“Here are the five easy steps to join Word-High July:

  1. Write or create a post inspired or about the Filipino word prompts.
  2. A post can be anything. A poem, a fiction, a six-word tale, or even a photo. Itโ€™s all up to you.
  3. Linkback/create a pingback to this post. Here is a quick tutorial on how to do it.
  4. Tag your post with WordHighJuly, so your co-bloggers will be able to read/see your take on the prompt. Hereโ€™s how you create tags.
  5. Most important of all, read and comment to your blogger friends (old and new found, weโ€™ll never know).๐Ÿ˜‰

Come join Maria and Rosema in appreciating the beauty of the Filipino language.

Let the #WordHighJuly commence! โœŒ๏ธ

  1. Lovely piece. Love how the rhythm slows down, reflecting the calmness grace brings. A great direction in which to take the word also, that of control bringing inner peace rather than simply preserving face.

    1. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ I hadn’t really thought about ‘preserving (saving) face’, but that would be another good reason ๐Ÿ˜‰ Having inner peace isn’t only acceptance – that’s just the beginning – but then to exude the peace and project it into the world!

    1. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ When I was younger, I enjoyed the confrontation, drawing the line in the sand, being right…as I get older, I see the wisdom and peace that comes from taking pause, giving grace and space to others and myself, and letting go ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Oh, yes. I completely agree to that. ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy to hear some words of wisdom from you.. We’ll have to remember this from now on. โค

      1. Nice. Perhaps, being in the background allows you to see more and listen better? Lol. But maybe I’m superimposing.
