The Dance
They had been here before, nothing new, but it was different this time. In the air, not the adolescent excitement of being close to a new love. No. This time, they appreciated all the blood, sweat, and tears that came from having a lifelong partnership. A marriage which survived births, deaths, and many fights along the way.
They’d come back, not for the people to reunite with, but themselves. The reunion of where they started, remembering how far they’d come together from the children who played on the playground, the adolescents passing notes in the hallway, young adults embracing kisses in the parking lot, to adults rekindling the fire that united them so many years ago.
The crowd gathers, hellos and goodbyes are said, but in that perfect moment their song, their journey, culminates in the dance.

Love this! It encapsulates the entire experience of marriage into a few words and how the ups and downs has been worth it to stay together and stay in love. Wonderful story!

Thank you for your kind words…I think it’s easy when you’re young and in love to be naive, but now that I’m over a decade or more in, it’s more about sticking through by choice. I saw in this couple the love and joy of being together after a lifetime together and what I’d like my experience to be 🙂

Ahh, this is real love. The memories, the fights, the time and compassion and compromises and battles, oh man, you’ve described everything so perfectly. Great job!

*blush* {what a compliment!} It’s a little easier to write about after having years of experience and making it to *the other side* – Thank you 😉

Love is not only about feelings but more of a decision, you were able to tell it here in this tale, great read!

Beautiful. Did you mean to imply the Garth Brooks song ‘The Dance’ ? http://youtu.be/2Ru1M6dY0cY It isn’t as happy as your story but the mesage of togetherness and lifetime love is there. Well written 🙂

Thanks — it’s like you can read my mind, that is totally the song that was going through my mind 😉

Lol. That’s funny. I didn’t think you would actually be thinking of that specific song. But it’s what came to my mind I guess too 😉

A really beautiful piece. I enjoyed the reunion aspect of the story. It’s nice as we hurtle along the highway of life to be able to take a few moments to back up and remind ourselves of some of the events that helped to shape us. Nicely written.
