Day 1

While I love the Seattle sun, the pollen is killing me. Quite literally: my eyes are swollen, inflammation throughout my body, and I’m making poor food choices since I feel so rotten.
•
I ate a quarter of a Blizzard from DQ yesterday — SO BAD for me as I react badly to dairy....a ‘cheat’ day didn’t feel great...I’m just cheating myself.
•
I’m easing into it with some yummy almond milk blended into my pineapple/apple smoothie - I also drank coffee this morning because I am dragging.....
•
But it’s all about giving myself permission to not be perfect and slowly give in to the truth that I cannot go on living with the migraines, fatigue, guilt, aches, and damage I continue to inadvertently subject my body to.
•
I don’t know that I’ll be doing 150 days like my inspirational friend Jen, but I do know it’s what my body needs today 🖤
•

Hello Book Club!!

I missed one of the last Chapter 1 Brave Learner book clubs tonight... kind of!
•
I arrived early, grabbed some delicious vegan chili, an almond latte, and waited. And waited. I posted pictures to our FB group, and no one replied.
•
Luckily, I was able to catch up with a few friends via text and work on my planning - but the whole club met and didn’t see me looking for them!
•
I’m so glad they were able to carry on and find one another - Yay!! And I was able to meet a fellow home educator by chance meeting with our-of-town friends and dish homeschooling. •
Another Brave Learner Seattle member found me when she couldn’t find the group, so we were able to introduce one another, swap stories, and build community on a smaller scale.
•
It’s the personal relationships which make this journey so rich!
•

Happy Pi Day 🥧

Today did not go as planned,but we started off with Pi, and all things Pi, which is the best way to start any day!
•
We also saw the Trailer for Avengers Endgame — Oh My GOODness — tearing up, but can’t wait to see it...which means we’re probably going back to see Captain Marvel again in the theatre - at least a matinee!

Such a random post - so much going on today, with it being Pi Day, Marvel Avengers Endgame tickets to buy, blog posts to finally finish...

But as many of you know, I’ve been going through my loads of paper trying to minimize the footprint of ‘things’ in my home.
•
We’ve had a couple of new developments to make that easier this week - the way we are taking charitable item donations have been modified, for instance - and I’ve nearly given up all of the *education* books we’ve not used or will not use again, but I literally struggled with this sheet of paper this morning.
•
Spectacularly unspectacular, save this: my son took a picture of our tree in December to print me a list of the supplies to take to our Park Day ornament making activity.
•
You guys! He is so creative, it came out as this image, taken on his phone, list made on the picture with the simple photo editing tool there, then he printed it - from his phone - to the printer.
•
Why do I tear up when I see this? He spoke to my heart by giving me paper instead of a text, he took the time to incorporate his creativity, and he {with his brother} helped me gather supplies and lead an ornament making activity they didn’t want to participate in at a Park Day they didn’t want to go to — they did it just for me 🖤
•
My mama heart is full - I am enchanted!
•
These are the seemingly small things packed into each piece of paper. I go back to that day and remember how kind, creative, and lovely they were - for my happiness!
•
Of course this piece of paper brings me joy, but what brings me more joy is reliving it again - and I just did it in this post!
•

We’re a gaming family and have found so much good in continuing to follow our children’s interests. My husband and I love to travel and take our children with us {much to their disappointment at times because they love home - Yay!}.

Since we follow our children’s interests, we are ‘Eclectic Unschoolers’ {our obscure label}and pair our interests and educational goals with theirs; Recursion.

I post our ‘schooly’ stuff on my IG account @eclectic_unschoolers and our travel on my IG account @bikurgurl_travels {because we’ve always traveled with children!}

I met @juliebravewriter at Wild + Free Portland 2018. As I stumbled over my introduction and conversation with her, she just gave me a big hug - I was at my lowest energy home educating parent season of my life. I felt I had no tribe in my home educating community and wasn’t sure how I was going to successfully help my high schooler. Shortly after meeting Julie, I joined the Homeschool Alliance and am now walking, chapter-by-chapter through your book, The Brave Learner, with over 60 Brave Learning Seattle Home Educators! •
I cannot tell you the positive transformation Julies Homeschool Alliance has had on my home educator life: I’ve gone from loneliness and fear to joy and camaraderie. Although it is a lot of work I’m doing on my own insides, it’s so worth the effort!! The payoff? Saving this Homeschool mamas sanity. I can never thank you enough for hugging me that day last year - when I felt so overwhelmed and stuck - you helped me find my way 🖤 •
I can’t wait to meet Julie and all the other Brave Learners again this summer in Cincinnati - a collective of other educators on this journey of enchantment, curiosity, and greater community of relationship-centric families!!

I finally purchased a Passion Planner last summer when the Classic Size and cover were offered for $1 each — I simply started in July and used Happy Planner stickers to cover the dates for January 2018-June 2018, changing it to January 2019-June 2019.
•
Of course, I marvel at the beautiful spreads, but mine is pretty utilitarian - even gets messy by the end of the month.
•
I kept taping in information, painting pages, tucking in papers, and now it’s a full, yet burly, mess. So I ordered a new Student Passion Planner at 50% off around Christmas. I wanted to try the Pro size and love that the cover is part of the book. It’s easy to manage in my bag and I leave the big, unwieldy Classic Planner on my desk.
•
So after weeks of traveling and Brave Learner Book Clubs, I’m finally updating my portable Pro with my old Classic Passion Planner and our shared, online, family calendar.
•
And to top it off, I had to start a new Bullet Journal {BuJo} last week; it used to house my schedule, but now it is where I brain dump, plan, and journal all the information. Writing ideas, story starters, blog posts, whether or not they actually get written, are all housed here. • •
Quotes, book reviews and recommendations, every bit of information is written down in one of these places.

My Word of the Year for 2019: Streamline - I am not only attempting to streamline my physical spaces, and mental space, but I am attempting to do this with my calendar/planning/writing system. •
•
Now: to figure out how to integrate it all with my husbands on-line only world -
