Images
I wait for the images to develop.
We began this adventure over 10 years ago. To a foreign country, where we could immerse ourselves in the culture and day-to-day life, was a summer indulgence.
Once we enjoyed the family time, the closeness we had together, we didn’t want to return. My husband and I decided to give it another month. Then another. Then another. We made the choice to sell everything back home – this was now home. We didn’t need those things, just each other. However, the children are now grown, and it’s time to move on.
Again, we sold most of our things, that first summer I want to hold in my hand. I have a lock of hair, a shell, some sand, and my memories.
Back there, in the dark, my memories lie in wait to come to light. The images of a summer well spent with my family, by the sea, and the physical images are so important to us to retrace our past and look forward to our futures.

An emotionally-charged story. We can truly learn from what we have kept inside our heads. Nostalgic writing. Thank you!

Wonderful nastalgic piece! I love how the protaganist prioritizes what is important in her life and how she talks about her memories as though they were photos being developed. Wonderful story!

Very nice story. I liked how this photo business the family set up wherever it was, became their new home, and now they are moving on again now that their kids are grown. I enjoy the focus on memories and good times. Makes me think that home is where the heart is, not a destination. Well done.
